Dear Writer’s Block

It’s not you, it’s me.

Lately, I’ve been going around blaming you for my lack of writing. But it is actually me who has the problem. I can’t be with you anymore.

It’s time I moved on and got some writing done.

No.

Really!

I mean it this time!

I’ve been wanting to break up with you for some time now and I realize that today has to be that day. Don‘t let the book spine hit you on the way out.

I know we’ve been together for a long time, but I think we will both be happier if we live apart. You will find a new home with someone who doesn’t really want to succeed as a writer.

Sorry, but that person isn’t me. I want to write and you are hindering it.

You’ll be fine. I can assure you of that.

I need to make a cold break. Please, no visits!

You are not allowed to come back, pretend to be my friend, and make me feel like I am doing something productive like dishes, laundry, or housekeeping.

No. You may not disguise yourself as something else on my to-do list.

Mr. Procrastination doesn’t need any help from you. He is doing a fine job of distracting me on his own. He is next on my breakup list anyway. Please, don’t tell him. It will be better if he hears it from me directly.

Sincerely

Me
